Horizon Science Academy Dayton High School is very proud to receive another award. This time, our award is for our exceptional efforts on blood drive. Mr. Jon Thalman Account Representative from Community Blood Center came to Horizon on October 16, 2014 to present High School Leadership Grant and a $1000 check to Principal Mr. Hakan, Activity Coordinator Mrs. Harris and two students Zuleykha Aslonova and LaQuon Lawsom.
With this grant, Horizon is recognized as the most improved school. According to Mr. Thalman, Horizon has the smallest number of eligible student donor enrollment among Community Blood Center blood drive schools. But in 2013-2014 Horizon hosted a second blood drive and saw 125% increase in blood donor registration over the previous year.
Horizon will continue to be a part of such community events. It is because we are a community school. Our students learn many new things through such partnerships. It is one of our school values that education is such a big responsibility. It cannot be achieved within the school building only. Mobilizing community resources is a must.
